It's the same energy she brought during her stint on YOU season 2, which has left some viewers still asking for her return. Ortega has already proven her charisma with her performance in the 2022 Scream, where she was ultimately regarded as the horror reboot's breakout performer. Wednesday taps into that quality, pinpointing the right scenes which highlight her strengths.

 

Wednesday season 2 has yet to receive an official renewal, but it's almost certain that Netflix is looking at how to best capitalize on the success of the series and its star. As Wednesday has passed major milestones for the streamer, it's only a matter of time before the series is renewed. It'll be interesting to note, as well, whether the upcoming episodes will allow more overt emotion as the protagonist deals with a stalker and potentially greater danger yet.

The minds behind The Simpsons recently discussed the process they used to create the legendary animated TV show's iconic opening sequence couch gags. The show's 34th season debuted on September 25th, continuing its stretch as the longest-running American sitcom of all time. The Simpsons will air its landmark 750th episode later this season, as the series continues to show unparalleled staying power over three decades on TV screens with no signs of slowing down.

 

Director David Silverman and showrunner Matt Selman sat down with GQ recently to talk about some of the biggest moments of The Simpsons' ongoing 34-year run, including their unique and ever-changing couch gag opening sequences. Selman spoke about how the producers would enlist staff writers who were not busy to come up with fun ideas for couch gags ahead of time. Selman also said that the couch gags are not related to the creative writing of the show and that they're essentially part of a parallel production process. Nowadays, the producers are much more creative in finding outside talent to come in and do the couch gags for them.

 

The Simpsons is famous for its famous guest actors, but filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro and Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton are among the big names that have pinch hit for The Simpsons producers on couch gags. Interestingly, Selman also divulged that they've often contracted fan artists to do some of their couch gags, including a pair of super fans from Switzerland who got a regular gig doing couch gags for the show after they shared a live-action version of a classic sequence where Homer eats his way through New Orleans.

 

The Simpsons broke down barriers in 2007 when they released a feature film based on the show. The Simpsons Movie received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, not to mention it made over $500 million at the box office for 20th Century Fox. The Simpsons Movie remains beloved thanks to its classic Simpsons humor but also for its unique plot and the emotional weight of the narrative. It's now been 15 years since its release, and no sequel has been officially announced, but that hasn't quelled the demand for another Simpsons adventure on the big screen.

 

While there haven't been any concrete announcements about the sequel, The Simpsons producer Al Jean did say in November 2021 that pre-production for The Simpsons Movie 2 was underway, though it would not be a direct sequel. Jean's desire to have the movie be a major theatrical release like its predecessor is a contributing cause to the delays, as such a release would require a much bigger budget than one built for a straight-to-streaming release. There haven't been any announcements since then, but considering that The Simpsons Movie happened after 18 seasons, it would be reasonable to suspect that a similar timeframe would be targeted for the sequel. That would put a possible The Simpsons 2 movie release date somewhere in the range of 2025 or 2026 if it ever happens.

Roald Dahl's Matilda will be familiar to many who may have grown up on the 1996 film starring Mara Wilson, an enchanting film that adapted the English author's story. That film (and the novel itself) were seemingly overshadowed by the debut of the musical adaptation that first premiered in 2010 before making its debut in London's West End in 2011. The first film that is a part of Netflix's overall deal with the Roald Dahl Story Company, Matilda the Musical is a strong start to what could prove to be a fruitful collaboration. The adaptation isn't perfect (what stage-to-screen adaptation is?), but Matilda the Musical comes with a game cast, expertly staged musical numbers, and just a touch of magic that all the best musicals have.

 

Matilda the Musical follows its eponymous character, a precocious young girl with the worst parents in the world (played by Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough). Matilda Wormwood prefers to lose herself in books, something Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood can't be bothered to care about. When Matilda is forced to attend school against her parent's will, she meets teacher Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch) and the menacing Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson). When her school turns out to be a less-than-desirable place, Matilda must use her passion, imagination, and newfound friends and mentors to overcome all the obstacles in her life.

 

Matilda the Musical's stage iteration has received nothing short of critical acclaim during its various runs, including a high-profile stint on Broadway. Like the best musical adaptations, Netflix's Matilda the Musical manages to keep the charm and delight of its stage production while expanding its scope only in the way a feature film could. Dahl's original novel has gone through numerous forms, including the original film adaptation that Americanized much of the original story's peculiar Britishness. Matilda the Musical meets both in the middle, retaining some of the changes it made to the novel (including removing characters like Matilda's brother), and it largely works thanks to a few key components.

 

Thompson is excellent as Miss Trunchbull while nearly unrecognizable underneath all the prosthetics and militarized garb that makes her as terrifying as she is domineering. Lynch projects warmth as Miss Honey and gets a standout solo moment with "My House" that may come as a surprise to anyone more familiar with her steely performances in last year's No Time to Die and this year's The Woman King. It seems that no one is having more fun than Riseborough, though, who relishes every moment she's onscreen as Mrs. Wormwood, dolled up brilliantly by the hair and makeup team. She opens the film with a scene where she refuses to acknowledge she's pregnant with Matilda, setting a particularly high bar.

 

The true standouts, though, are Weir herself and the ensemble of children that back her up. Numbers like "Revolting Children" show off the cast of youngsters as they traipse around the grounds of the school with exacting choreography. Like Lynch, Weir projects warmth, but also confidence as she stands up to the adults in her life, most of which treat her (and the other children around them) with disregard at best and with pure contempt otherwise.

 

Matilda the Musical toes the line between this darkness and its charm and whimsy finely thanks to director Matthew Warchus and screenwriter Dennis Kelly. Warchus' camerawork during some of the more kinetic numbers feels like the perfect example of the ways in which a movie musical can do what a stage show can not. Matilda the Musical feels like a worthy addition to the library of live-action Dahl adaptations and is a promising start to the collaboration between Netflix and the author's Story Company. Its holiday release is also perfect timing as the film feels like the perfect comfort viewing for those who will be at home for the festivities.

Zoey Deutch has had quite a year with the diverse roles she’s played. In March, she was an FBI informant in Graham Moore’s The Outfit. Her next role in Not Okay saw her as Danni Sanders, an aspiring writer with a lust for stretching the truth. Deutch’s latest sees her return to the romantic comedy genre, in which she receives an engagement ring meant for someone else. Based on the novel of the same name by Melissa Hill, Something from Tiffany’s combines misfortune and fate in peculiar ways. Directed by Daryl Wein from a screenplay by Tamara Chestna, the film has all the ingredients one might appreciate in a holiday rom-com. Yet, Something from Tiffany’s lacks a good enough sсript and the chemistry it needs to make anyone want to sit through another holiday rom-com.

 

The story follows two couples as they navigate their growing relationships in New York City around the holidays. Rachel (Zoey Deutch) and Gary (Ray Nicholson) have been together for three years. While they are not quite ready to take that next big step, they are happy enough to continue to grow together. Ethan (Kendrick Sampson) and Vanessa (Shay Mitchell), on the other hand, are picture-perfect and ready for marriage. Together with his daughter Daisy (Leah Jeffries), Ethan picks out the best ring. Unfortunately, a mix-up of gifts ensues when a buyer gets into a car accident. What follows is a series of twists and unexpected holiday surprises that lead everyone to their rightful paths.

 

Wein’s holiday romantic comedy is everything one would expect. There are two gorgeous leads on the cusp of changes in their love lives, their not-so-likeable partners, and a great deal of cheesiness in between. The story is also quite predictable, in which it doesn’t require much effort to pay attention. Though this predictability is obvious from the moment the characters cross paths, it isn’t what sets the film back from being good or even decent. It’s the dull acting, lack of chemistry among all the characters, and a boring sсript that fails to give viewers any reason to continue watching.

 

One of the main reasons the film feels incredibly lackluster is due to the relationships and how they’re portrayed. Audiences are expected to understand that these couples are on the verge of taking the next steps in their relationships. Yet, there’s rarely any time dedicated for viewers to get to know the couples and how they’ve come to these stages. In the very few moments the screenplay calls for romance, it feels wasted on couples who don’t deserve it because of their lack of chemistry, nor does it make much sense why they’re together. If there was any attempt to sway viewers to care one way or another, it's the weakest one by far among the recent holiday romantic comedies.

 

If there’s one saving grace for Something from Tiffany’s, it is, without a doubt, Zoey Deutch. She has incredible energy, and she understands the value of likability when portraying her character. Unfortunately, it feels as if she’s in the film alone with respect to watchability. Her chemistry with Sampson seems forced, and it almost feels more appropriate cheering on her independence from these boring and unworthy (of her time) men. The father-daughter relationship between Sampson’s Ethan and Jeffries’ Daisy is an added bonus when these moments come, but they are limited and lack substance considering what the characters have been through.

 

Ultimately, Something from Tiffany’s is yet another holiday romantic comedy that doesn’t take any risks beyond its genre’s tropes. With few details on the couples and the intricacies of their relationships, viewers may find the film a chore to get through. Additionally, the predictability settles in as early as the opening sequence, deeming it somewhat pointless to continue watching. If not for the spirited performance from Deutch, one might consider director Wein’s latest a poor attempt at entertainment and holiday romance. The actress makes it easy to keep all eyes on her throughout the feature, but with so many good holiday rom-coms this season, it likely won’t be enough to direct viewers away from the competition.

New images from Riverdale season 7 reveal that the characters are still stuck in the 1950s. The series, which is a gritty reboot of the classic Archie Comics, has been running on The CW since 2017 and is preparing to premiere its seventh and final season in Spring 2023. This season will follow the shocking twist ending of season 6, which saw Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) use her newfound powers to prevent a comet from destroying the town of Riverdale, inadvertently sending the entire town back into the 1950s with only Jughead (Cole Sprouse) remembering their present-day lives.

 

Entertainment Weekly shared a collection of first-look images from Riverdale's upcoming final season as part of their 2023 preview. The images showcase the new time period for the season, including two portraits highlighting brand-new outfits for Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead, whose hat looks much closer to the original comic book design for the character. The images also show off the updated setting, including a scene of Cheryl, Jughead, and Archie (KJ Apa) in class and a group of girls dressed up for what seems to be a sock hop, including Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Toni (Vanessa Morgan).

 

Riverdale Can Use Its 1950s Setting to Turn Archie Even More On Its Head

 

A major reason why Riverdale became so appealing to audiences when it premiered was the fact that it subverted a formerly wholesome comic book property. The original Archie comics, which premiered in 1941 and have generally retained a retro aesthetic and narrative style, feature a treasure trove of iconic characters that were recontextualized by the antics depicted in the series. Season 1 took a big swing by following the characters as they worked to solve a bloody murder mystery, with the later seasons going to wilder and wilder places by introducing drugs, gangs, a serial killer, a cult, and even witchcraft and superpowers.

 

To some viewers, the transition back to a 1950s setting may initially seem like a regression for the series. This, combined with the fact that various people involved in the show, including the actor who plays Cheryl Blossom herself, have teased that Riverdale season 7 will be more toned-down and character-focused. However, that doesn't mean that the show still won't be up to some of its old tricks.

 

In fact, it seems more than likely that Riverdale season 7 will use its 1950s setting to remind audiences of just how different these characters really are from their original comic book portrayals. Presumably, Jughead's memories of present-day Riverdale will cause other people to eventually regain their own memories, providing friction with the more buttoned-down society they now find themselves trapped in. Even if that's not the case, the show will probably quickly take a turn to show the dark side of the era, especially considering the fact that many of its core cast members are actors of color and that Casey Cott's character Kevin Keller is gay. That will likely cause a cascade of drama that the Archie Comics of the 1950s could never have dreamed of.

All the details released about Babylon have created plenty of buzz around the film, making it natural to wonder whether the movie can live up to the enthusiasm it has generated. While Babylon has yet to debut theatrically, early reviews have indicated that critics are split on the film, with some finding that it successfully conveys its message while others feel that the movie is lacking on several levels.

Robert Pattinson's version of Batman is reportedly being considered

Robert Pattinson's version of Batman is reportedly being considered to join the larger DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran's leadership. The DC brand is going in a new direction as Gunn and Safran were hired as the leaders of the newly formed DC Studios. As of November 1, Safran and Gunn are now in charge of television, movies, and animation, with the goal of bringing about a more cohesive DCU (formerly known as the DCEU) in the future. However, the last week has been a heated one for DC Studios, with several reports emerging about what's happening to the DCU.

 

Now, according to Variety, "a well-placed source" states that DC Studios heads Gunn and Safran are exploring the potential of incorporating Pattinson's iteration of Batman from Matt Reeves' new franchise into the larger DCU. This comes only a week after it was reported that despite the apparent changes coming for the DCU, this wouldn't affect The Batman 2. Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have yet to comment on the story. Pattinson and Reeves have also not commented on this report.

 

How Robert Pattinson's Batman Could Join The DCU

 

Nothing is set in stone yet, as Gunn and Safran would reportedly only be "exploring the possibility" of going through with this idea. Assuming that they manage to bring Pattinson's take on the Dark Knight into the DCU, how they would do that from a story standpoint would be the most important thing to tackle. At no point during The Batman did they establish that any other Justice League heroes exist in Pattinson's world.

 

There are DC Comics storylines that could easily help integrate Pattinson's world into the larger DCU and organically explain the existence of other superheroes. If Gunn and Safran wanted to, they could pull anywhere from Crisis on Infinite Earths to Flashpoint, which would allow there to be a canonical reason for Pattinson's Batman ending up in the mainline DCU. Assuming that DC Studios is only planning to do a soft reboot rather than a full-on restart, changes to the timeline and retcons could explain how the DCU suddenly has Pattinson as their new Batman.

 

What Does This Mean For Ben Affleck's Batman?

 

If Pattinson were to come into the DCU as its new Batman, Ben Affleck's role as the current iteration of the DC vigilante will be brought into question. Having played the Dark Knight since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck has reportedly been eying The Flash film as his final performance as Batman in the DCU. There were plans to have Michael Keaton's Batman essentially take over for Affleck's version in the DCU after the events of The Flash movie, but those were reportedly scrapped upon Gunn and Safran's takeover. If it's true that Affleck is retiring from the role, having Pattinson's Batman take over does give new longevity to the Dark Knight, as the DCU's new version would be significantly younger.

A new image from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania shows Scott and Cassie Lang stuck in the Quantum Realm. In his first appearance since Avengers: Endgame, the third Ant-Man movie finds Paul Rudd's Scott Lang pulled into the Quantum Realm along with Hope van Dyne aka the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), her parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and his daughter Cassie. The character was previously portrayed as a child by Abby Ryder Fortson in previous Ant-Man films, as a teenager by Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame, and will now be played by Kathryn Newton of Big Little Lies fame.

 

Now, the latest look at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has arrived courtesy of Total Film (via GamesRadar). The new image shows Scott and Cassie trapped in the Quantum Realm as they gaze off ominously into the distance. Scott is wearing his Ant-Man suit, but Cassie has yet to receive a special costume of her own. That could mean this image is from early on in the film.

 

Why The Quantum Realm Is So Important In Ant-Man 3

 

As revealed by the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer, Cassie creates a mysterious device that sends signals down to the Quantum Realm. The device incidentally pulls her father and the entire Pym family into the alternate dimension, a place where Janet and Scott have both previously been stuck. There, they meet the Marvel Cinematic Universe's next Thanos-level big bad, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who is also trapped in the Quantum Realm and wants Scott to help him get out.

 

As indicated by its title, the third Ant-Man movie will take place primarily in the Quantum Realm and explore its various "characters, worlds, politics, and history," according to producer Stephen Broussard. By introducing Kang, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will not only be imperative to setting up the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars; by diving deeper into his homebase, the Quantum Realm, this will likely be a setting that will be revisited numerous times throughout the Multiverse Saga.

 

The Quantum Realm has been glimpsed in the MCU a few times before, though the third Ant-Man movie should reveal some secrets about the enigmatic dimension. During the trailer, Janet admits to Hope that she's been harboring secrets from her, possibly about her 30-year stint in the Quantum Realm. By introducing a major villain and giving a vital setting more in-depth exploration, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be central to the future of the MCU when it premieres in theaters.

Cersei's influence on Joffrey was significant, showing he wasn't fully beholden to his own agenda and often didn't realize he was a pawn in the plot of others, like his mother and his grandfather Tywin (Charles Dance), due to his stubbornness and strong ego. Despite being used and often manipulated, Joffrey was never predictable or boring due to his reckless and unpredictable nature.

 

Joffrey wasn't as shockingly evil as another infamous villain, Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), neither was he as dangerously entitled as Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) nor as masterfully strategic as his mother. He stands out as one of the most memorable villains in the series due to his age, casual cruelty, sadism, irritating nature, and petulance, as well as his tendency to act based on his own will and not always adhere to an overarching agenda. While Game of Thrones had its share of famously bad apples, Joffrey is one of the show's best-written villains, so it's a relief to hear that fans in public don't equate Gleeson to his terrible character.

As Marvel showcases the "X-Babies" version of Alex Summers in X-Men Annual

The younger brother of Cyclops - the X-Men member Havok - is about to meet his tiny doppelganger, as Marvel showcases the "X-Babies" version of Alex Summers in X-Men Annual #1 (2022).

 

The "X-Babies" are genetically modified toddler versions of classic X-Men characters created by the deranged, evil ruler of the Mojoverse, Mojo. While the first X-Babies were actually de-aged X-Men, Mojo was so impressed by the media ratings the young mutants got that he tasked his team of geneticists with manufacturing his own version of the X-Babies, who have appeared several times throughout the history of the X-Men, starting in the 1980s.

 

It was recently revealed in X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #62 that the X-Babies are still alive and well, after not being seen or heard from since 2015, and that Krakoa's Quiet Council is attempting to make a deal with Mojo's legal team to safely retrieve the X-Babies as mutant citizens of the island nation. Now, the return of the X-Babies has been teased even further, with an image of the X-Baby version of Cyclops' brother Havok turning up in one of their mission briefings, much to Alex Summers' surprise. However, the arrival of "Lil' Havok" is an even bigger treat for hardcore fans of the X-Men, as his appearance has been teased since Jonathan Hickman's 2019 soft reboot of the franchise with House of X/Powers of X. In an exclusive interview with AIPT, Steve Foxe - writer of X-Men Annual #1 (2022) - discusses how "Lil' Havok" actually first appeared on promotional artwork for HoX/PoX by Mark Brooks, joking, "It’s true, all of it: Mark Brooks predicted that I would one day find a way to get [Lil' Havok] into an X-Men Annual, even though Marvel had no idea who I was in 2019."

Quantum of Solace has its share of glaring flaws, especially compared to the installments preceding and following it. Its differences in tone and pacing are jarring, and its combination of a less important central story and brisk runtime leaves notably less in the way of footholds for audience investment. Furthermore, it concludes with a somewhat detached vignette where Bond tracks down Vesper's blackmailer and spares his life, a condensed and familiar "revenge movie" arc arguably befitting an extended epilogue to Casino Royale. Nonetheless, in the greater span of Daniel Craig's interconnected Bond films, there's still relatable meta-commentary to be made of Bond's "off year" as both a character and franchise.

This morning, news broke that Taylor Swift will direct her first feature film for Searchlight Pictures. She will write it and direct it, in fact, and we know nothing more about it than this. I am now going to tell you how I feel about that prospect.

 

This is not my first day on earth. I know that writing anything remotely critical of the Taylor Swift project risks incurring the wrath of some of the most dangerous and organized people on the internet. So let me preface all of this by saying: I am a Swiftie. Taylor is my girl. I, too, have rinse-repeat listened to “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)” and indulged in vengeful thoughts about my ex-boyfriends. One of my most cherished memories is screaming “You Belong With Me” in my best friend’s face on the dance floor at her wedding. I am in a group chat called Taylor’s Diversion, in which we swap theories about upcoming albums. I have planned and attended Taylor-only karaoke events. I am mentally preparing to spend a month’s earnings on the “Eras” tour.

 

Now, all of that said, I do not think this movie is a good idea.

 

I enjoyed the music video Swift directed for the extended edition of All Too Well, because it was like hearing amazing gossip about an old friend, except it’s about unbelievably hot A-list celebrities. It was only 10 minutes long, and I am sufficiently brain-dead because of fandom that I was going to get a kick out of it even if it was just 10 minutes of Sadie Sink holding up a sign saying “Fuck you, Jake Gyllenhaal.” But a whole movie? A feature-length film? About what, exactly? Can Taylor’s worldview, which can (I’m sorry! I love her!) have a certain kind of slightly cringe, entry-level feminist bent, be tolerable at this scale?

What Is Going On With DC Studios?

In a new report from Deadline, one of their studio insiders said that despite the reports that emerged this week, there were never "any pre-conceived notions of not continuing with these actors." Currently, it will boil down to The Flash movie, which recently had its release date moved up, and Aquaman and the Last Kingdom, which opens in December 2023. The report also added that they have no desire to see Gal Gadot retire as Wonder Woman, despite Wonder Woman 3 reportedly being cancelled. Thus far, Gunn and Safran have not commented on the Justice League recasting story.

 

What Is Going On With DC Studios?

 

At the time of publishing, no DCU actors have commented or made a statement about their future with the franchise after 2023. The only possible comment that any have made was Gadot, who shared a thoughtful post on her casting anniversary only a day before the initial DC Studios reports broke. Many have taken Gadot's casting anniversary post as a sign that she was trying to give fans a heads up about Wonder Woman 3 and the departure of Patty Jenkins, but that has yet to be confirmed.

 

It's unclear what the state of DC Studios is right now following all the reports over the last few days. DC Studios, which launched on Nov. 1, has been working on a 10-year plan for the DCU, as Gunn and Safran are overseeing movies, TV shows, games, and animation. The duo are reportedly going to present their DCU bible next week, or sometime early next year, as there have been conflicting updates about when Gunn and Safran are actually pitching their vision to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. Despite Gunn responding to the DCU reports this week, it remains to be seen which parts are true about the Justice League-based franchise.

Casaro got his start as a teenager drawing posters for local theaters in exchange

"The less you give away, the better," says the Michelangelo of movie posters. Over the course of 50 years, Renato Casaro has drawn the first impressions of some of our favorite films – posters he likens to bait on a hook, helping turn movies into milestones, and mere mortals into stars.

 

Showing his illustration of Sylvester Stallone for the Rambo series, Casaro said, "You can't do this in Photoshop!"

 

Born 86 years ago in Treviso, Italy, Casaro got his start as a teenager drawing posters for local theaters in exchange for tickets. His big break came when iconic Italian filmmaker Dino De Laurentiis was making his epic blockbuster, "The Bible." 

 

"It was a colossal film," Casaro told CBS News foreign correspondent Chris Livesay. "My posters were put on billboards on Sunset Boulevard. After that, my phone never stopped ringing."

Disney suffered one of its worst theatrical releases ever with its latest animated movie Strange World, which brought in just $18.6 million over the five-day holiday weekend despite being heralded as the first Disney movie to include an openly gay main character.

 

Strange World had Disney’s second-worst opening weekend ever, behind only the pandemic-era release of West Side Story directed by Steven Spielberg, Variety reported Sunday. Ultimately, Strange World only garnered about half of its projected long weekend revenue.

 

The film featured a star-studded cast including voice acting from Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Lucy Liu, and Gabrielle Union, and sported a massive budget between $120 and $130 million, the Daily Mail writes.

 

Expectations were initially high for Strange World with Disney projecting the film to earn between $30 and $40 million dollars over the long weekend. However, those figures were rapidly, and significantly, revised downwards when it was understood how poorly the movie was performing with audiences.

 

As with other recent Disney animated movies including Lightyear (another disappointing box office flop), Strange World sought to crowbar progressive causes into the film, including for the first time in Disney’s history an openly gay main character. However, one liberal movie reviewer said Disney would likely use homophobia to shield it from the film’s obvious shortcomings.
